On 4 December, Alvantia attended the Degree Award Ceremony for the 2018/2019 academic year held at the Campus Sur auditorium of the Polytechnic University of Madrid, opened by the chancellor of the UPM, Guillermo Cisneros.
Roberto Gutiérrez, CEO at Alvantia , had the honour of handing over the prize for the best academic record on the Degree in Information Systems, thus enhancing the company’s strong partnership with the University. Wei Tingyun was the recipient of this hard-earned recognition of her excellent work during her time at UPM.
Agustín Yagüe, Head of the Superior Technical School of Information Systems, dedicated a few kind words to the students who will soon be embarking upon their professional career: “In my humble opinion, the best professional is not necessarily the one who knows most, but the person who in addition to knowing, is able to share this knowledge with others and transmit the enthusiasm of a job well done to those around them. (…) You are our best ambassadors. I know that we are in good hands and that you will continue the tradition of the graduates from the Superior Technical School of Information Systems being so highly regarded by companies during the recruitment process”. Yagüe also highlighted the positive progress seen at the School over the past year, with an upturn in research activities and during which the number of doctoral graduates on the teaching staff has increased. He also indicated that the minimum grade had increased for all degrees and collaboration between the university and companies had increased considerably.
In this connection, Guillermo Cisneros, placed special emphasis on joint innovation (corporate/university). According to a recent report by the Regional Government of Madrid, UPM accounts for 75% of all university collaborations with private companies in the region. Furthermore, Cisneros indicated that UPM is the university with the highest number of CEOs at IBEX 35 companies.
The words offered by UPM’s chancellor to the students were particularly moving, recommending that they always use a large dose of humility: “Aware of the weight of the luggage that you now take with you and that you must demonstrate wherever you go, you must do so with humility. Any person who passes by your side will have something to teach you, whether they have a university degree or not.” Finally, Cisneros highlighted the importance of UPM on an international scale and reminded attendees that almost all subjects offered by the centre are in the Top 200 of the four most recognised international rankings on a global scale.
At Alvantia , we are convinced of the importance of getting companies involved in university education and we have not hesitated in collaborating once again with UPM, participating at this moving event recognising the talent and excellence of the prize winners. We wish all the graduates a bright professional and personal future.
